What We Offer
We specialize in private cooking lessons that are designed to teach you how to cook, to unleash your culinary creativity, and to expand your culinary horizons. If you’ve taken and enjoyed a creative-writing class or attended a photography workshop or become immersed in painting lessons – we offer the food/cooking version of that type of creativity.

What We Teach
As much as possible, our focus is on local and seasonal ingredients.
Our classes aren’t about how to make home-made pasta or bake a cake. They are not about creating the perfect 5-course meal of appetizer, soup, salad, main, dessert.
Our teaching is about HOW to cook. It’s about pairing spices; about the flavors of different ingredients; about various cooking methods; about creating a harmonious whole; about cooking with the seasons; about unleashing your kitchen creativity.
Of course, after every cooking class session with us, you will have completed a wonderful, original, delicious, and creative meal.

Classes
We offer two basic types of lessons. Single-Session Courses (approx 2-1/2 hours) are a combination of lessons and our cooking with you. We guarantee that you’ll have fun and learn a lot. Although it’s hard to get a great grasp of cooking concepts in only one session, this is a great way to jump-start your creativity, or even to have some assistance (and insight) for a special meal you’d like to create.
We also offer a 4-Week Series which consists of 2-1/2-hour (approx) sessions each week, for 4 consecutive weeks. In general, each week will focus on a particular ASPECT of cooking – spicing, food & flavor pairings, ingredients, cooking methods, and many other topics.

How It Works
All classes are in YOUR kitchen, using your kitchenware and utensils. We may bring a few knives and special pans, but our goal is to help YOU become a great cook – that means you doing your creative cooking in your kitchen.
Each dinner created will consist of several dishes – the number will depend on the situation and menu. We will generally create a meal that will serve four, but that can be adapted to your desires.

Why Choose Us?
Instructor Ken Hulick is a product of his heritage and his life – in cooking and in every aspect. His great-great-great-great grandfather fought in George Washington’s Continental Army during the American revolution.
His mother was born in Venezuela to an American mother (who herself was descended from the infamous Dan Winter of Irish-rebellion history) and a Venezuelan/Spanish father. Ken grew up in a household that served Pallela as well as Sauerkraut.
A year living in Tokyo, Japan, infused him with a lifelong appreciation and fascination with Asian cuisine. And then there were his food travels to France, Eastern Europe, Cuba, and other places around the U.S. and around the world. All this has made Ken’s cooking eclectic, diverse, multi-national, and uniquely creative.
Ken has written food and wine articles for national publications. He’s been a private chef for clients in California, Colorado, Washington, Texas, and New Mexico. He’s taught the concepts of cooking to a diverse range of students. And he is putting the final touches on his food/cooking book (which he declines to call a “Cookbook”), The Cooking School of Life.
